Peruvian : Lucky & Happi

Long haired breed Guinea Pigs.
Peruvian Couple...

Happi after the lost of her 3 babies is getting well, don't really know why the babies died but I hope we will get batter luck next time.

Lucky on the way to recover. We've trimmed his hair to make sure that he is comfortable & also to make sure that urine doesn't soaked his coat.

 Are you looking at me?
Long haired guinea pigs are man made by selective breeding and would not survived in the wild.

 Lucky is very happi..
Long haired Gpigs are beautiful but their coat need regular attentions.

Happi is very lucky..
Their coat can easily become matted and knotted resulting in it pulling the skin, ignoring this can cause your Gpigs to get infected and worst skin problem.

Pooky gave birth

9pm last night, when feeding them suddenly Pooky with a "squeak squeak...." sound gave birth to 4 babies.

The proud father for the babies is?
Guess who?

 Pooky cleaning them-up..

Diasoka peeking on the new born
Diasoka : Congrats!! Pooky.

 Still week and tired

Just minutes old babies, I think it was just 30 minutes till the last one out..

Some tips..
While giving birth it is best not to disturb them doing what is natural to them, usually if we think that they need some help, only  then we help to clear the white membrane covering the babies. Be very extra careful when handling the new babies coz at this stage their very soft /fragile.
Take a look at their birth record in the past could help you on determine if their need help on delivering their babies. On Pooky's case she have no record of birth difficulty so it should be find..
You should not carry the babies. Babies should be bond to their mother, so to avoid mother rejecting their babies it is no recommended to disturbed nature work.

These is what we do and know
Tobyfarm since we have our first Cavies.
Just some knowledge to share to you Guinea pig Lover.
